Too often, young people are at risk of recruitment by violent extremist organizations (VEOs) that disrupt their ability to learn, earn, and thrive. In this session, we want to draw from YOUR expertise and ask that YOU share YOUR stories. How can we leverage positive youth development (PYD) to increase youth resilience to VEOs?
Together, we will analyze stories shared, identifying trends and promising practices. Creative’s and Mercy Corps’ preventing violent extremism (PVE) and PYD experts will provide evidence to support (or refute) what we’ve seen. This session will merge the realms of PVE, PYD, and resilience in an interactive session in which participants will co-create a framework of principles for youth resilience in communities at risk of violent extremism.
Participants will draw from the latest evidence in PYD and PVE, as well as the group's collective knowledge and experience in implementation. Ultimately, we will advance a transformative set of principles to change how current systems engage youth.
