How Education, Training, and Agri-food Systems Act Together to Accelerate Skilling for Sustainable Futures
Andrea Salomé Villareal has worked for the Ecuadorian government for the past 9 years, holding various management positions at the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investment and Fisheries, and the Ministry of Education, where she is now the Director of Secondary Education (Directora Nacional de Bachillerato). In these capacities she has contributed to the development of the White Paper on Sustainable Bioeconomy for Ecuador together with the Agence Française de Développement and the realization of A Green Pact for Ecuador with the European Union, and has worked on various projects with GIZ, IFAD, UNDP and VVOB. Trained as an Agroindustrial Engineer and experienced in working with young people from secondary technical education, she believes that rural youth are essential to achieving sustainable territorial development and a true generational change in Ecuador’s agri-food chains and agribusiness and is passionate about promoting the formal and visible inclusion of women in these important economic activities.
