Empowering Youth in South Africa's Green Economy: Opportunities, Barriers, and Quick Wins
Mbali Motsoeneng is the Head of Strategic Partnership for Microenterprises at Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator and focuses on partnerships with various entities to create earning opportunities for South African youth. She champions youth entrepreneurship to combat unemployment and collaborates with Green Riders to provide green economy jobs. Mbali supports youth in establishing resilient businesses and gig work through the ‘Make Your Own Money’ initiative.
With a background in public policy advisory and program management, Mbali’s Master’s research addressed legislative impacts on Soweto’s migrant traders. As a Policy Advisor in Johannesburg’s Mayor’s Office, she contributed to the climate agenda, ensuring government commitment to the Climate Action Plan. Her work extended to sharing insights with international peers, including at COP 26 and through the Wilton Park Agency.
